ROCHESTER, N.Y., Sept. 30 (UPI) — U.S. Special Operations Forces has given the Harris Corporation an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for specialized handheld tactical radios.
The contract has a ceiling value of $390 million. It is for five years with an option for one additional year.
Harris said it will supply its new integrated two-channel, handheld radio that combines communications and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities for the award, which was issued under the SOF Tactical Communications program, or STC.
“The Harris STC handheld is a highly advanced, multi-band radio capable of reaching virtually anyone, anywhere, regardless of waveform or device,” said Chris Young, president, Harris Communication Systems. “The STC is the result of our continued investment and commitment to advancing tactical radio communications for our warfighters. It is a purpose-built radio with tremendous power and capability in a very small package.”
The Harris STC handheld radio enables SOF teams to communicate over multiple channels simultaneously with an integrated Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Module Global Positioning System receiver, and the ability to receive ISR full-motion video and signals-based threat information. The STC leverages technology from the Falcon III tactical radio family, including the AN/PRC-117G and AN/PRC-158 manpack radios.
