PASADENA, Calif., Jan. 8 (UPI) — HBO’s critically acclaimed but short-lived western drama Deadwood will be returning in film form according to programming president Michael Lombardo.
Lombardo shared the update on the long in development film while speaking at the Television Critics Association’s press tour party in Pasadena on Thursday by mentioning how he personally gave the go-ahead to series creator David Milch.
“David has our commitment that we are going to do it,” says Lombardo. “He pitched what he thought generally the storyline would be — and knowing David, that could change. But it’s going to happen,” Lombardo said of the revival to TV Line.
Back in August, the network confirmed they were in early talks to develop a Deadwood movie with actor Garret Dillahunt who played Francis Wolcott on the show tweeting about the exciting news. “So uh….I’m hearing credible rumors about a #Deadwood movie. #Everybodypray,” Dillahunt posted.
Deadwood originally premiered in 2004 and ran for three seasons until it was cancelled prematurely in 2006.
HBO also announced during the TCA press tour that Season 6 of their fantasy-drama Game of Thrones would premiere on Apr. 24.
