Hilary Duff discusses single motherhood

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 31 (UPI) — Hilary Duff says motherhood is difficult but possible without marriage.

The 28-year-old actress discussed her life with 3-year-old son Luca in an interview for the February issue of Redbook. Duff is parent to the toddler with estranged husband Mike Comrie, whom she filed for divorce from in February.

“It’s hard to say that you really can have it all,” she said of balancing motherhood and career. “I think you can to a certain degree, but fully loaded, pedal-all-the-way-down is tough. You’re missing out on something, either on the career or on the family. When I’m really busy with work, I feel extremely guilty.”

“I don’t want to say I wouldn’t get married again, but it’s not important to me,” she shared. “I don’t feel I would need to be married to have another child. If I felt strongly enough toward someone or if someone felt strongly about it, I might say okay. But it’s not essential.”

Duff and Comrie were separated over a year before the actress filed to end their marriage. She told Health magazine she and the 35-year-old NHL player “still love” each other in November 2014, but later said their relationship slowly fell apart.

“It wasn’t working well enough to stay together, but there was still a lot of love involved,” she told Cosmopolitan. “It was just a slow set-in of us not being the match that we used to be. I’m lucky for the person he is and I am and how we decided to handle this.”

Duff is best known for playing the title character on Disney Channel sitcom Lizzie McGuire, and released her fifth studio album, Breathe In. Breathe Out., in June. She presently portrays Kelsey Peters on the TV Land series Younger, which will return for a second season Jan. 13.
