‘Housewives’ Vicki Gunvalson’s ex Brooks Ayers defends cancer diagnosis

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 4 (UPI) — Brooks Ayers has come forward with written proof of his cancer diagnosis after months of skepticism by the cast of Real Housewives of Orange County and others.

In a two-part interview with E! News, the former boyfriend of castmember Vicki Gunvalson shared past bills from receiving treatment for Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. One chemotherapy treatment was shown to cost over $30,000.

“I’m not going to say I’m in remission,” he told the interviewer. “That’s not going to be the case until my numbers have normalized and that’s the word that was used to me.”

Years of skepticism regarding Ayers’ condition stemmed from rumors and conversations between ex-girlfriend Gunvalson and others from RHOC. During Sunday’s show reunion, Gunvalson asserted that although she defends Ayers, her “gut” told her he was lying about his cancer.

“She gets backed into a corner, she says one thing and then when she’s with the other person,” Ayers said, regarding Gunvalson’s comments. “She just did it with me at the reunion. She said ‘I believe he doesn’t have cancer.’”

During Sunday night’s reunion, an apparent copy of Ayers’ cancer report was accused as fraudulent, pushing Gunvalson to “give up.”

“I don’t have any proof that he doesn’t [have cancer], and he won’t give me enough proof that he does,” she told her castmembers and host Andy Cohen. “I’ve been busy with my business and this big house, and I’m like, ‘There has to be truth in this stuff.’”
