CHICAGO, Nov. 24 (UPI) — Ice Cube and Cedric the Entertainer return to the Barbershop series in the first trailer for the upcoming sequel, Barbershop 3: The Next Cut.
The trailer released by Global Grind and Ice Cube Tuesday features Calvin (Ice Cube), having to join forces with beauty shop owner Angie (Regina Hall) in order to keep their hair cutting businesses afloat.
Series regulars Eddie (Cedric the Entertainer), Terri (Eve), JD (Anthony Anderson) and Jimmy (Sean Patrick Thomas) are joined by a cast of musical newcomers including Nicki Minaj, Common and Tyga.
The third film in the franchise promises plenty of laughs and the series’ signature banter. Barbershop 3 will also get more serious by tackling the issue of gang violence in Chicago as Calvin and Angie’s shop is affected by a recent spike in crime.
Directed by Malcolm D. Lee with a script by Black-ish series creator Kenya Barris and Tracy Oliver, Barbershop 3: The Next Cut hits theaters Apr. 15.
