NETANYA, Israel, Sept. 10 (UPI) — Israel’s Ministry of Defense has procured tactical radars from RADA Electronic Industries to help guard southern border communities.
The Multi-Mission Hemispheric Radar will be used to protect against short-range threats, including rocket and mortar fire, as well as aerial threats.
“We are very proud of the selection of our systems for the important task of protecting the lives of the residents near the southern border,” said RADA Chief Executive officer Zvi Alon. “This program is the latest of strategic programs in which our radars are taking part, and were announced over the past few months, strengthening the global recognition of our unique radar offering.”
The southern border zone is the first area for deployment of the MMH radars, which Israel will use throughout the country.
RADA Electronic Industries described the MHR family of radars as S-band, software-defined, pulse-Doppler, active electronically scanned array systems. The radar platforms provide multiple missions on each platform, are compact and mobile.
The company will be unveiling three new variants to the MHR family at the upcoming Defense and Security Equipment International exhibition in London: The pMHR radar, a portable force protection system; and the eMHR and ieMHR radars, which enable longer detection ranges for very short range air defense, sea and air surveillance missions.
“The expansion of the MHR family enables us to offer our customers a variety of solutions for a myriad of missions and applications,” Alon said. “We are now offering our radars to the maritime market, where the systems’ minimal size, weight and power is an essential advantage.”
