JERUSALEM, Dec. 29 (UPI) — A professional musician from Israel took to social media to search for a stranger from the United States who sent him his first guitar 15 years ago.
Arnold Nesis, 30, posted a video to Facebook telling the story of an American man who he claims changed his life by sending him his first guitar after his parents refused to buy him one or pay for lessons.
Nesis explained that some time between 1999 and 2000 he decided to message people selling guitars on eBay asking if they would send them to him if they did not sell. After being mostly ignored, one man eventually reached out.
“To my surprise someone replied and sent me “Hi, I’m a Jew too. This is my present for you for Hanukkah.” He send the guitar all the way from U.S., and paid for shipping as well which was something like $200,” Nesis wrote.
The man sent Nesis a 1983 Ibanez X Explorer Destroyer with the name Bill Doran carved on the back.
Nesis never sold the guitar and eventually became a professional musician writing music for films and video games and first attempted to seek out the man to repay him for the guitar by posting a photo to Facebook in 2012.
“Not to sound to dramatic, but my dream from 12 years ago came true, and it’s all thanks to this person,” he wrote. “Looking back, I honestly don’t know if I would be a musician today if it wasn’t for this guitar.”
Three years later he took to Facebook again, hoping that a video would provide more success in finding the mystery donor.
The video has been viewed over 760,000 times, receiving almost 6,000 likes and 21,000 share since being posted on Sunday.
