Italian sailors rescue cold and exhausted puppy lost at sea

NAPLES, Italy, Nov. 6 (UPI) — A puppy lost at sea after falling from an ferry in Italy’s Gulf of Naples was later rescued by a group of sailors from a local club.

A video posted to YouTube by the RYCC Savoia club shows the puppy approach a boat crewed by club members who hoisted the cold and exhausted Labrador out of the water.

“He was visibly exhausted, his legs almost paralyzed by the cold. He trembled and wept,” sailor Massimiliano Cappa told Italian newspaper La Repubblica.

The dog, named Noodle, fell from a ferry en route to the island of Ischia after slipping free from his leash, owner Mario Di Meglio said.

Di Meglio said the ferry’s crew refused to stop to rescue the dog, saying Noodle had most likely drowned.

“I am very happy, I could embrace him again,” Di Meglio said after the canine’s rescue. “But I’m still upset and angry about what happened: when the dog fell into the sea, and the ferry would not stop.”
