It’s Free Cone Day at Ben & Jerry’s, walk in and get a free scoop

WASHINGTON, April 14 (UPI) — As summer approaches, there’s no better excuse to get ice cream than on Free Cone Day, which begins Tuesday. Line up at any Ben & Jerry’s branch and receive a cone (or cup) of Cherry Garcia, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, or Chocolate Fudge Brownie ice cream without paying a dime.

Ben & Jerry’s was founded in 1978 by Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield in Vermont, who hosted the first-ever Free Cone Day a year later in celebration of its success. The ever-growing franchise has grown to serve its popular ice cream at almost 600 domestic and international locations as of 2014.

The mission of Ben & Jerry’s is to initiate “ways to improve the quality of life locally, nationally, and internationally.” Unilever states that Ben & Jerrys is “fully committed” to purchasing Fairtrade ingredients that benefit farmers, incorporating “values led sourcing,” and to maintain environmentally friendly manufacturing practices.

The company is known for its innovative flavors, and creative names to go with them. It’s newest flavor, The Tonight Dough, honors Tonight Show host, Jimmy Fallon. According to the company website, the flavor is dedicated to SeriousFun Children’s Network of global camps for children with serious illnesses.
