LOS ANGELES, Jan. 10 (UPI) — James Corden challenged Neil Patrick Harris to a Broadway musical riff-off Monday on The Late Late Show.
The comedic musical battle erupted after Harris interrupted Corden’s opening monologue. “Your silly jokes can wait Corden, we have a score to settle and it’s about… Broadway,” the actor said to the late night host.
“I see you going around, hosting the Tonys, acting like you’re the only TV star who can sing Broadway show tunes,” Harris explained. “Some of us, dude, have actually won a Tony.”
After Corden explained how he too had earned a Tony award, Harris dismissed his achievement replying, “Yeah, for a non-singing role…burn!”
Soon the duo were joined by the cappella group Filharmonic to face off in a rendition of “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat” from musical Guys & Dolls.
The following musical numbers included “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” from Gypsy, “Being Alive” from Company and “On My Own” from Les Miserables among others.
In the finale, Corden and Harris launched into a performance of “My Shot” from current Broadway smash Hamilton.
On Monday, the lineup was revealed for Corden’s Carpool Karaoke series on Apple Music which will feature guests such as John Legend, Alicia Keys, Taraji P. Henson, Will Smith, Billy Eichner, Metallica, Ariana Grande, Seth MacFarlane, Blake Shelton and Chelsea Handler.
