James Franco working on remake of ‘Mother, May I Sleep with Danger?’ TV movie

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 22 (UPI) — Actor and filmmaker James Franco is producing and has contributed the story for a remake of the classic TV movie Mother, May I Sleep with Danger?

No casting or plot details have been announced yet for the project.

Lifetime and Sony Pictures Television said the telepicture will air in 2016 in honor of the original’s 20th anniversary. The 1996 version starred Tori Spelling as a young woman whose seemingly perfect beau is not who he appears to be. Ivan Sergei played the boyfriend.

“The retelling of the cult classic from Sony Pictures Television will pay homage to the original film that continues to resonate in pop culture today,” a news release promised.

Produced by Sony Pictures Television in association with Rabbit Bandini Productions, the remake was written by Amber Coney and will be directed by Melanie Aitkenhead.
