Janet Jackson announces new album and world concert tour

LOS ANGELES, May 16 (UPI) — Pop music icon Janet Jackson has announced plans to release a new album and go on a world concert tour to support it.

The Grammy winner — who turned 49 Saturday — did not reveal the album’s title, but the announcement video on her official website was accompanied by “#ConversationsInACafe,” suggesting that might be what the CD and/or its lead single will be called. She also did not specify a start date or location for her upcoming concert series.

“I promised you you’d hear it from my lips and now you will,” she teased in a voiceover for the video announcement. “This year: new music, new world tour, a new movement. I’ve been listening. Let’s keep the conversation going.”

Jackson largely has remained out of the spotlight since she released her latest album of new music Discipline in 2008. A greatest hits collection Number Ones was released in 2009. Her older brother Michael died of an accidental, doctor-administered overdose of anesthesia and sedatives in 2009. He was 50.
