Gordon, 43, set a {link:new track record: “http://www.sportingnews.com/nascar/story/2015-03-06/jeff-gordon-wins-the-pole-of-the-kobalt-tools-400-qualifying-results?eadid=SOC/Twi/SNMain”,nw, t: “Gordon track record”} with a speed of 194.679 mph in his final start in Las Vegas, according to the {link:Sporting News: “http://www.sportingnews.com/nascar/story/2015-03-06/jeff-gordon-wins-the-pole-of-the-kobalt-tools-400-qualifying-results?eadid=SOC/Twi/SNMain”,nw, t: “Gordon record”}. The 26-year veteran also won the pole at the Daytona 500, but had an accident at the end of the race. Gordon now has taken the top start spot 79 times and led 24,751 laps in his Sprint Cup career.
Gordon ranks No. 3 all-time with 92 Sprint Cup points race victories and is No. 3 in poles. The Vallejo, Ca. native is No. 3 behind Richard Petty and David Pearson in race victories.
“There was a lot of wide-open throttle there. Sunday’s Kobalt Tools 400 starts at 2:35 p.m. Sunday at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
