Jim Harbaugh reportedly hires son Jay to coach Michigan tight ends

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Jan. 14 (UPI) — Jim won’t be the only Harbaugh in Ann Arbor, as the newly-minted University of Michigan head coach hired his son Jay to oversee the program’s tight ends.

Jay spent the last three seasons as an offensive quality control assistant for the Baltimore Ravens under Jim’s brother and his uncle, John Harbaugh. In 2012, the then-25-year-old was serving as a first-year coaching intern for the Ravens when they bested Jim’s San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII.

“I’m really thankful and proud at the same time,” Jim Harbaugh told The Washington Post prior to that game.

“Jay is doing what he loves to do, and that’s a real blessing … I hear he’s doing a phenomenal job, something I’m really proud of.”

A formal announcement was not made about Jay’s hiring, 247 Sports reported the move after Jay’s name appeared in Michigan’s directory.

The Wolverines open their 2015 campaign at Utah on Sept. 3.
