Jimmy Fallon channels Lucious Lyon in ‘Empire’ parody

NEW YORK, Sept. 23 (UPI) — Jimmy Fallon entered the world of Empire ahead of its season premier through a 10 minute parody skit on Tuesday night’s episode of The Tonight Show.

The talk show host donned the definitive turtleneck and tidy hairstyle for which Empire lead Lucious Lyon is well known for and expertly mimicked Terrance Howard’s character — even when faced with the actor himself.

The plot of the 10 minute parody surrounded Fallon, A.K.A. Juicy Jim, as he considered potential heirs to his “Jimpire” as it was unclear how long he had left as leader.

“I might not be around forever… with my finger being in the condition it is,” Fallon’s character said, alluding to his broken finger. “Who knows what could happen tomorrow. I could stub my toe, I could bite my tongue, I could burn the roof of my mouth eating a hot microwave pizza.”

The clip ties-in both Howard’s character and that of Emmy nominee Taraji P. Henson (her satirical role going to Steve Higgins, aka “Higgy”) while the actors also make memorable cameos.

In the end, however, after considering the three, then four, potential options, Fallon’s Juicy Jim decides to surprise everyone by choosing an entirely different heir to the “Jimpire” legacy — a man with an empire of his own.
