WASHINGTON, Oct. 29 (UPI) — Former Speaker of the house John Boehner bid adieu to Congress Thursday as Wisconsin Republican Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) took over as his successor.
Ahead of Ryan’s swearing in, the ever-sensitive Boehner addressed the House — tissue box in hand — in his last speech as the 61st speaker of the United States House of Representatives.
“The hill had twists. The hill had turns,” he said. “And even a few tears. Nothing wrong with that. But let me tell you, it was all just perfect.”
The 65-year-old Republican from Ohio will step down from his post Friday. In honor of his last snivel as Speaker, below are Boehner’s top 5 teary eyed moments in Washington.
5. The time Kelly Clarkson sang at President Barack Obama’s second inauguration
4. The time he watched the 2010 election results with the Republican National Committee
