NEW YORK, Dec. 8 (UPI) — Former Daily Show host Jon Stewart temporarily returned to his post on the program Monday night to discuss healthcare for Sept. 11, 2001 first-responders.
During the second half of the show, now hosted by comedian Trevor Noah, Stewart pushed the reauthorization of the partially expired Zadroga Act, taking time to shame Congress as well. The act, which gives healthcare to those who worked on Ground Zero after the 2011 attacks, will reportedly fully expire next October.
“Back in 2010…Congress passed the Zadroga Act,” he said. “They actually only funded the Zadroga Act for five years…but they did not renew it.”
“The only conclusion that I can draw is that the people of Congress are not as good as people as the people who are first responders,” Stewart continued to applause.
Stewart explained Congress is fundamentally “forgetting” heroes of the 9/11 aftermath by putting off the bill, which helps those who became sick from breathing in the air at Ground Zero. “Passing the Zedroga Act seems like a no-brainer,” he said during a separate segment covering his visit to the Capitol in Washington, D.C.
