LOS ANGELES, Nov. 4 (UPI) — Secret in Their Eyes released an intense new trailer starring Julia Roberts on Wednesday.
The 48-year-old actress portrays Jess, an FBI investigator whose teenage daughter is murdered. The preview sees the character and her partner Ray (Chiwetel Ejiofer) renew their search for the killer years later, albeit with increasingly unsanctioned techniques.
Secret in Their Eyes is based on the Eduardo Sacheri novel La pregunta de sus ojos, which was previously adapted into an Academy Award-winning Argentine film. Nicole Kidman co-stars as a district attorney who oversees the case.
Captain Phillips screenwriter Billy Ray directed the movie, which opens in theaters Nov. 20. Ray previously told Yahoo! Movies it was a privilege to work with Roberts and Kidman, who are both Academy Award Best Actress winners.
“There was enormous respect, great camaraderie, and in my opinion … a very healthy, kind of athletic level of competitiveness,” he said. “They both had such a regard for each other, and they both wanted to do their best because the other was in the movie.”
