Kashmir helicopter crash kills seven

JAMMU , India, Nov. 23 (UPI) — Seven people were killed Monday when a helicopter transporting religious pilgrims from a shrine in Indian-administered Kashmir crashed.

The pilot and six passengers died when the helicopter crashed upon taking off near the shrine of Hindu deity Vaishno Devi near the town of Katra. The aircraft was en route to the city of Jammu in western Kashmir.

There were no survivors.

The pilot was identified as Sunita Vijayn. Police said she was experienced in transporting pilgrims to local Hindu shrines via helicopter.

The Vaishno Devi, in the outer Himalayas, is visited by millions of people annually.

The cause of the accident was under investigation.
