Kathy Griffin talks ‘Fashion Police’ departure on ‘The View’

NEW YORK, March 16 (UPI) — Kathy Griffin dropped by {i:The View} Monday to discuss her recent departure from the red-carpet analysis program {i:Fashion Police}.

“I was told that they would happily sign on to my style and all that other stuff, you know, but it’s kind of like buying a house. You don’t really know until you spend the first night there if there is a dog that barks next door or if there is a neighbor that’s a certain way,” Griffin explained. “I really didn’t know until I took the seat, but no harm, no foul. They were very nice to me. It just wasn’t the right thing for me.”

Griffin went on to say she enlisted the help of {i:Girls} star and creator Lena Dunham — a fellow feminist — when she was crafting the statement she released to the public last Friday, announcing she had quit {i:Fashion Police}.

Griffin described Dunham as “super-generous” in her assistance.

Before she wrapped her segment on {i:The View}, Griffin also promised, “I’m still going to give people crap, trust me,” but she did not reveal what is next for her.

Griffin joined the E! show after Joan Rivers died last year at the age of 81. Griffin’s departure follows that of her co-host Kelly Osbourne. Osbourne quit after panelist Giuliana Rancic commented that the dreadlocks of Osbourne’s friend, 18-year-old actress and singer Zendaya, looked as though they smelled of patchouli oil and marijuana. Although Rancic publicly apologized for the remark and Zendaya accepted Rancic’s mea culpa, the incident sparked a social-media furor.
