LOS ANGELES, May 19 (UPI) — Kathy Hilton says half-sister Kim Richards is doing great in rehab.
The 56-year-old designer updated fans on the 50-year-old reality star at an Ovarian Cancer Research Fund event Saturday. Richards entered a treatment facility for substance abuse last month after being arrested for public intoxication and other offenses April 16.
“She’s great,” Hilton told reporters. “She’s doing really, really well. I’m very proud of her. She decided to go on her own … Kim needs to learn the tools to cope when there is something that’s upsetting. You have to learn to use the tools to not fall off the wagon.”
Richards was charged with public intoxication, resisting arrest and battery on a police officer following her arrest. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills reality star has struggled with alcohol abuse for years, and previously checked in to rehab in 2011.
Hilton is wife to Richard Howard Hilton and mother to four children, including Nicky and Paris Hilton. The designer was born to Laurence K. Avanzino and Kathleen Dugan, who went on to marry Kenneth E. Richards, Kyle and Kim Richards’ father.
