NEW YORK, Sept. 16 (UPI) — Usher, Katie Holmes, Laverne Cox, Connie Britton, Freida Pinto, Gayle King and Sophia Bush have agreed to participate in the 2015 Global Citizen Festival.
The free, ticketed event is to take place on the Great Lawn of New York’s Central Park on Sept. 26.
The star-studded concert is intended to raise awareness of The Global Poverty Project’s mission to end extreme poverty by 2030.
The festival will be headlined by Pearl Jam, Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran and Coldplay, and is timed to coincide with the start of the United Nations’ new Global Goals designed to fight inequality, protect our planet and eradicate extreme poverty, organizers said in a news release.
Common, Tori Kelly, Sunidhi Chauhan and others are also set to perform as special guests at the show.
Stephen Colbert, Salma Hayek Pinault, Deborra-Lee Furness, Hugh Jackman, Kerry Washington and Olivia Wilde are to act as the lead hosts for the festival. MSNBC will air a live simulcast of the full concert on MSNBC and MSNBC.com; YouTube will carry the livestream; and NBC will air a one-hour, highlights special Sept. 27.
