LOS ANGELES, Oct. 2 (UPI) — Reality star Kendra Wilkinson revealed she experienced “severe depression” as a teenager and attempted to kill herself.
During a sneak preview of the next episode of the celeb’s reality show Kendra On Top, the star is shown describing to her therapist, Dr. Monica Shahbaznia, the grim details of her childhood.
“When I was a teenager I battled some severe depression,” she said in the clip. “I attempted suicide a couple times. I went to a mental institution. I battled some severe depression — drugs, overdosing, slitting the wrists, all that stuff.”
She said the suicidal urges didn’t stop when she became an adult. In fact, when faced with her husband Hank Baskett’s cheating scandal last year, she considered taking her own life once again.
“I was at a real low,” she said. “I even questioned my life.”
“If it wasn’t for [my daughter] Alijah, the bond I had with her, I feel like I would have probably ended my life. I felt like I’m not even supposed to be here,” she added. Shahbaznia told the 30-year-old star that upbringing and family have a lot to do with how people connect. Absorbing this, Wilkinson said she didn’t receive the support she needed as a child.
“I was left on my own,” she said. “I was a young [expletive] girl. All I wanted was for my mom to say, ‘I love you, and I’m here for you.’ I never got that.”
In a previous episode of Kendra On Top, which airs on WE TV, Wilkinson revealed she has a troubled relationship with her mother, Patti. She described her mom as an emotional abuser who makes her feel “raped” every time they speak.
