King Kong ride set to debut at Universal Orlando in 2016

ORLANDO, Fla., May 6 (UPI) — A King Kong themed attraction will open at Universal Studios Orlando in the Summer of 2016.

Universal announced Wednesday that the Skull Island: Reign of Kong ride will premiere at the Islands of Adventure theme park. Universal Creative will work closely with Peter Jackson, who directed the 2005 blockbuster, to create a realistic experience.

Executive Producer of Universal Creative, Mike West, said in the press release: “King Kong is a Hollywood movie legend and a huge part of both our history and our future. He gives us the opportunity to tap into everything that makes our film history so special and everything that makes our theme park attractions so spectacular. We can’t wait to bring him to life in such an epic way.”

The ride transports guests to an unknown origin where they will encounter an array of creatures and even King Kong himself, riders will have to fight for their survival.

Kongfrontation, a different King Kong inspired ride, once existed in its neighboring sister theme park but closed in 2002 to make room for the Revenge of the Mummy indoor roller coaster, which still stands today.

Construction for the newest addition to the park has already been started, adjacent to the Jurassic Park section.
