NORTHBROOK, Ill., Sept. 4 (UPI) — Kraft Heinz expanded its voluntary recall of cheese slices 10-fold, affecting 335,000 cases of the product Thursday.
The initial recall, announced in July, applied to 36,000 cases of the cheese shipped to retailers in the United States and several Caribbean countries.
Thursday’s notice included shipments to more Caribbean nations and to South Korea.
The expansion came after two more choking incidents were reported. Kraft Heinz warned a thin strip of packaging film separating cheese slices may remain adhered to the food, posing a choking hazard.
“This product list below is inclusive of the previously recalled [three- and four-pound] sizes of Kraft Singles American and White American pasteurized prepared cheese product with a ‘Best When Used By’ date of 29 DEC 15 through 04 JAN 16, followed by the Manufacturing Code S54 or S55. Only products with the S54 and S55 codes, which refer to the two production lines on which the impacted product was made, are included in this recall,” Kraft Heinz said in a statement.
