LOS ANGELES, April 23 (UPI) — Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love’s old apartment is now up on Airbnb, giving Nirvana fans a chance to stay in a little piece of rock history.
The apartment is $290 per night, up from $150 per night since it gained traction with more than 5,000 views.
Cobain and Love lived in the apartment from 1990 to 1991 but moved out when a bathtub leak damaged a guitar and some other items. The bathtub is where the Airbnb ad claims “Heart-shaped Box” was written.
The current tenant is Brandon Kleinman, a 31-year-old who works at an interior design start-up.
“The day I signed the lease, I was sitting with the landlord,” said Kleinman, “and as soon as I signed on the dotted line, he said, ‘Okay, now I can tell you the real story behind this apartment.’ He kept it a secret because he wasn’t getting great tenants when he advertised the apartment’s backstory. He went on to tell me about what it was like having Kurt Cobain live here, and what to watch for. It’s been funny. Once every 60 days or so, I’ll get a weird, older gentleman, a rocker-type dude, sort of a burnout, knocking on the door, saying, ‘Do you know what used to happen here?’”
The apartment accommodates three and is 20 minutes from downtown and 10 minutes from Beverly Hills.
