WASHINGTON, Sept. 21 (UPI) — L-3 Communications Corp., doing business as L-3 KEO, is being awarded a $20,138,900 contract for MK 20 Electro-Optical Sensor Systems and radar cross-section kits.
The Department of Defense said the firm-fixed-price, cost-plus-fixed-fee, cost only contract is being awarded to the company by the U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command.
The contract combines purchases for the United States Navy and the government of Japan under the U.S. Foreign Military Sales program.
The MK 20 electro-optical sensor system used with the MK 34 gun weapon systems on Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, Ticonderoga-class cruisers and U.S. Coast Guard Offshore Patrol Cutters, as well as ship classes of various allied nations.
The award includes provision of depot spares. The spares will support the gun systems by performing safety check-sighting, look-point-shoot, range, identification of counter-battery targets, and identification of short range surface targets.
Fiscal 2011, 2014, 2015 and 2016 Navy shipbuilding and conversion funds, foreign military sales funding, fiscal 2016 other Navy procurement funds in the amount of $20,138,900 will be obligated at the time of award. Funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year, the Department of Defense said.
