LOS ANGELES, Oct. 21 (UPI) — In a radio interview on Thursday, Lady Gaga, who was promoting her new album “Joanne,” dismissed comparisons to Madonna saying the two are “very different.”

Zane Lowe, host of the Beats 1 radio show, told Gaga that she and Madonna have “lived a very parallel existence.”

“You know Madonna tells a very similar story,” Lowe said. “Overprotective father… You know what I mean.”

Gaga told Lowe she and Madonna are “very different.”

“I wouldn’t make that comparison at all,” Gaga said. “I don’t mean to disrespect Madonna, she’s a nice lady. And she’s had a fantastic, huge career. She’s the biggest pop star of all time. But I play a lot of instruments. I write all my own music. I spend hours and hours a day in the studio. I’m a producer. I’m a writer. What I do is different.”

Gaga’s new album, “Joanne,” is out Friday and features the song Perfect Illusion, which Gaga released in September.
