LOS ANGELES, Aug. 14 (UPI) — The Los Angeles Police Department on Thursday said it is searching for a man who tried to hold up three different banks in under 60 minutes — but only went one for three.
Police say the bandit hit the first bank around 1 p.m. local time Thursday in Los Feliz, which is located about five miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles.
Inside, wearing a ski mask, he handed a teller a threatening note but fled the branch without getting any cash.
After changing his clothes, officials said, the man then struck at another nearby bank about 40 minutes later — but again wasn’t able to get money from a teller.
Finally, he struck for a third time at yet another bank at 2 pm., and this time was able to retrieve some cash and flee.
All three banks were located within a mile of each other, officials said.
Specific details about the suspect were not immediately revealed by the LAPD. However, officials said investigators are trying to track him down.
It wasn’t reported how much money the bandit got away with. In each attempt, the man handed the tellers a note but did not display a weapon.
