Laura Vandervoort to play villain on ‘Supergirl’

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 12 (UPI) — Laura Vandervoort has joined the cast of Supergirl.

The 31-year-old Canadian actress confirmed the news on Twitter after the CBS series made the announcement at the Television Critics Association press tour set visit day Monday.

“Thrilled to be announcing I’ll be recurring as #Indigo on @supergirlcbs,” she wrote. “So proud of the cast & this series. #Honored.”

In the DC Comics, Indigo is an android who possesses an analytical computer mind and can project energy from her eyes and hands. Supergirl producers described the character as “a living, strong-willed supercomputer that was sentenced to Fort Rozz after turning against the people of Krypton.”

Former The Young and the Restless actor Jeff Branson has also joined the series as Master Jailer, a forceful Fort Rozz guard who is “hellbent” on bringing the prison escapees to justice. Branson will first appear in Episode 14, with Vandervoort to debut in Episode 15.

Supergirl premiered in October, and airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET. Melissa Benoist stars as Kara Danvers, aka Supergirl, with Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers, Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott, Jr., and Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant.

Vandervoort herself played Supergirl on WB/CW series Smallville, and is also known for CTV teen drama Instant Star and ABC sci-fi series V. She presently portrays Elena Michaels on Syfy drama Bitten, which will return for a third season Feb. 15.
