LOS ANGELES, May 19 (UPI) — Laverne Cox praised Bruce Jenner’s bravery while at the the 10th annual Global Women’s Rights Awards in West Hollywood on Monday night.
The same night the second part of the Keeping Up With the Kardashians: About Bruce special premiered, People reports that Cox shared her excitement for Jenner’s willingness to be open about his journey.
“I think it’s always powerful when another transgender person comes forward and speaks the truth of their experience authentically and lives visibly authentically, but those stories have to be treated with respect, and nuance,” she said. “I think it gives us an idea of the rich tapestry and the diversity that is the transgender community.”
The Orange Is the New Black actress previously congratulated Bruce about his openness regarding his transition when he first revealed the news during the Diane Sawyer special on 20/20 back in April. She tweeted, “It is always brave to stand in one’s truth. Congrats darling.”
