Lawyer for Silicon Valley firm questions woman in bias suit

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — An attorney representing a prestigious Silicon Valley venture capital firm in a gender bias lawsuit questioned why the plaintiff did not reject initial advances by a male colleague.

Lawyer Lynne Hermle also showed jurors emails in which Ellen Pao seemed to exchange compliments and banter with the colleague she previously said was relentless in his pursuit of her.

Hermle began questioning Pao on Tuesday in her lawsuit against Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.

Pao has said the colleague retaliated against her when she broke off their relationship after learning he had lied when he said his wife had left him.

Pao said the colleague first approached her romantically during a trip to Germany after she had been struck by a cab and she was dazed from her injuries.
