GRAND JUNCTION, Colo., July 23 (UPI) — A United Airlines flight bound for Los Angeles was forced to land in Colorado due to several passengers reportedly feeling sick.
United Airlines Flight 447 declared an emergency state at about 9 a.m. as it traveled from Denver to LAX on Thursday. It diverted its trajectory to Grand Junction, Colorado claiming a medical issue and requesting emergency medical personnel to meet the plane on the tarmac.
Aboard the plane, oxygen masks were deployed as the airplane pilots shifted course.
Firefighters from the Grand Junction Fire Department did not detect abnormal oxygen or carbon dioxide levels in the plane, but they did evaluate 10 to 15 passengers who said they felt light-headed and nauseous. All of these passengers were sat next to or near a woman who initially became ill and vomited on the plane.
That woman, who remains unnamed, was transported to a hospital for closer examination. She was responsive and able to walk to the ambulance after evacuation. Fire department spokesperon Shawn Montgomery said that the woman’s sickness may have caused a chain reaction amongst the other passengers given the stress induced by the situation.
Passengers traveling to LAX will fly on a different plane as maintenance workers thoroughly examine the plane for any problems.
