LEADING OFF: Texas rookie Gonzalez goes for 3rd W, Papi set

A look at what’s happening all around the major leagues today:

___

THREE OF A KIND

Rangers rookie Chi Chi Gonzalez tries to become the first pitcher in Texas history to win each of his first three starts in the big leagues. He’s opened his career with 14 2-3 scoreless innings going into his next outing at Oakland.

PLAYING PAPI

Red Sox slugger David Ortiz figures to return to the lineup when Boston tries to avert a sweep at Camden Yards. He didn’t start Wednesday vs. Baltimore left-hander Wei-Yin Chen — Ortiz is hitting .114 against lefties this year. Righty Chris Tillman pitches for the Orioles.

WILL WIL BE READY?

Padres manager Bud Black says “there’s a high probability” outfielder Wil Myers will come off the 15-day disabled list for the game at Atlanta. He’s been out a month with tendinitis in his left wrist. Myers was hitting .291 with five homers and 19 RBIs, usually hitting leadoff and starting in center field.

TWIST AND OUT

The Reds will have a better idea how long shortstop Zack Cozart will be sidelined with an injured right knee. He twisted it when he slipped over first base during a 5-2 win over the Phillies on Wednesday. The Reds plan to put him on the disabled list at the start of their four-game series at Wrigley Field.

ZERO FROM ZIM

Ryan Zimmerman is mired in a 4-for-46 slump going into Washington’s series opener at Milwaukee. The Nationals star has been slowed by plantar fasciitis in his left foot and sat out Wednesday.
