‘Legends of Tomorrow’ releases first photo of Hawkman, Hawkgirl

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 11 (UPI) — New CW series Legends of Tomorrow released a first photo of Hawkman and Hawkgirl on Friday.

German actor Falk Hentschel, 30, and American actress Ciara Renee, 24, portray the DC Comics superheroes, who are also known as Carter Hall and Kendra Saunders.

“With powers derived from the ancient Egyptian hawk god, Horus, Kendra and Carter are destined to reincarnate through time as winged, helmeted warriors,” the DC Comics website reads.

“On DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Hawkgirl and Hawkman will fight alongside the Atom, Firestorm, White Canary, Captain Cold and Heat Wave against the immortal Vandal Savage.”

In the comics, Carter is an archaeologist and a reincarnation of the Egyptian prince Khufu. He discovers the mysterious Nth metal, which negates gravity and allows him to fly, and shares the secret with his reincarnated bride, Shiera, a relative to Kendra in the books.

Hentschel and Renee will debut as Hawkman and Hawkgirl on the Arrow and The Flash crossover episodes in December before starring on Legends of Tomorrow. The spinoff will premiere in 2016, while Arrow and The Flash will return Oct. 7 and Oct. 6, respectively.

Legends of Tomorrow will star Brandon Routh as the Atom, Victor Garber as Firestorm, Caity Lotz as White Canary, Dominic Purcell as Heat Wave, Wentworth Miller as Captain Cold and Casper Crump as Vandal Savage. In addition, Arthur Darvill will portray Rip Hunter.
