Lenovo releases Yoga 900 laptops featuring Intel Skylake

BEIJING, Oct. 20 (UPI) — Chinese computer manufacturer Lenovo announced the release of its new Yoga 900, a device that can be used as a tablet, traditional laptop or propped-up display.

The hybrid laptop has a gold body that encases the new sixth-generation Intel Core i5 or i7 Skylake processor. The chip first started shipping with devices by Dell and Microsoft in early October, with Intel’s promise of greater performance alongside lower power consumption.

The dual-core chips were designed expressly for use in hybrid devices like Lenovo’s Yoga that do not use a fan to cool the CPU.

Lenovo’s hybrid ships with up to 16 gigabytes of memory and can be had with a 512GB solid-state drive and JBL stereo sound by Dolby Audio. Its display measures 13 inches and is complemented by a larger keyboard and trackpad than previous Yogas.

It is heftier than previous models, as well — weighing in at 2.8 pounds and measuring 14.9 millimeters thick — but it brings a larger battery good for up to eight hours of use, an improvement over the previous Yoga 3 Pro’s 7.4 hours.

The system ships with Microsoft Windows 10 installed, making use of the operating system’s Continuum feature which allows on-the-fly switching between keyboard and tablet mode.

The machine has been on sale online since Monday, priced at $1,199.99 for a base model available in silver, orange or gold.

Lenovo also announced the Yoga Home 900, an all-in-one personal computer that can stand up through a hinge or lay flat on a table. This device will be available later this month and start at $1,550.

Lenovo also continues to make its ThinkPad line of laptops, which represent the company’s largest source of income.
