Leonardo DiCaprio to testify in “Wolf of Wall Street” defamation suit

LOS ANGELES, June 20 (UPI) — A judge has ordered acting superstar Leonardo DiCaprio to testify in a case against the The Wolf of Wall Street after a man filed suit claiming the 2013 movie defamed him.

Andrew Greene, former executive of the stock brokerage firm Stratton Oakmont, is seeking $25 million in damages in the case he filed against Paramount Pictures. He also named other producers in his lawsuit.

The suit contends that the movie, through the character Nicky Koskoff, wrongfully depicts him as a “criminal, a drug user and a degenerate,” CNN reported.

The judge required DiCaprio to testify after Green’s lawyers tried several times to depose him, but were told he was “too busy,” The Guardian reported.

The defendants’ attorneys argued unsuccessfully that the testimonies of director Martin Scorsese and screenwriter Terence Winter should have sufficed.

Judge Steven Locke ordered DiCaprio to testify “at a reasonable time and place agreed to by the parties.”

Green was a childhood friend of the film’s main character, Jordan Belfort. Also a former colleague of Belfort’s Green contends that Nicky “Rugrat” Koskoff is loosely based on him. He claims the movie mocked his hairpiece and depicted him as a drug user.
