WASHINGTON, Oct. 13 (UPI) — Lockheed Martin showed off its new solution for detecting drone threats at this year’s Association of the United States Army Annual Meeting on Monday.
The technology, known as ICARUS, is one of Lockheed Martin’s latest developments in electronic warfare. It can identify and intercept threats from unmanned aerial systems, which the company notes are becoming more commercially available for armed forces around the world. Deon Viergutz, vice president of Cyber Solutions for Lockheed Martin, says his company is responding to increased UAS use.
“The U.S. government is seeing an increase in the use of commercially available UAS platforms for surveillance and weaponization,” Viergutz said in a statement. “What Lockheed Martin has developed in ICARUS is a system that can detect, recognize and counteract these systems with pinpoint accuracy.”
The demonstration follows a year of field testing and previous demonstrations to potential buyers. ICARUS was developed by Lockheed Martin by combining advanced cyber and and electromagnetic activity experience with sensor technology and and non-kinetic techniques.
