Jan. 23 (UPI) — Second base is no longer a glaring hole for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The team picked up Logan Forsythe from the Tampa Bay Rays Monday, in exchange for right-handed pitcher Jose De Leon. Forsythe, 30, hit .264 with a career-high 20 home runs and 52 RBI in 127 games last season.

Forsythe is a career .255 hitter, with 55 career home runs in six seasons for the San Diego Padres and Rays. He was traded by the Padres in 2014 in a deal with the Rays for Jesse Hahn and Alex Torres. Matt Lollis, Maxx Tissenbaum, Matt Andriese, and Brad Boxberger were also involved in that deal. Forsythe made $2.25 million last season and is on the books for $7 million in 2017. He has a $9 million club option in 2018, with a $1 million buyout.

The Dodgers were previously in pursuit of Minnesota Twins second baseman Brian Dozier.

“We feel we have a tremendous amount of depth on the prospect pitching side and it allowed us to address our most acute need,” Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman told MLB.com.

The Dodgers traded former second baseman Howie Kendrick to the Philadelphia Phillies in November and did not sign free agent Chase Utley.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts coached Forsythe when he was with the Padres, while Friedman was with the Rays when the team acquired him from the Padres.
