NEW YORK, April 13 (UPI) — ESPN reporter Lou Holtz is leaving the network, ending his time as an analyst for college football.
Holtz announced last May he would retire after the 2014 season, but his retirement was not confirmed.
Holtz was a head football coach at William & Mary, N.C. State, Arkansas, Minnesota, Notre Dame and South Carolina. He also briefly led the Jets in 1976.
“Lou brought a champion’s perspective and a legacy of accomplishment to our coverage along with his distinctive style and humor. We appreciate his contributions and wish him all the best in the future,” ESPN said in a statement to Sports Illustrated.
His retirement will end his long-standing broadcast with Rece Davis and analyst Mark May.
