Luke Skywalker pulls pints of Guinness at Irish pub

PORTMAGEE, Ireland, Sept. 18 (UPI) — Luke Skywalker — er, Mark Hamill — went behind the bar at an Irish pub and practiced his skills pulling the perfect pint of Guinness beer.

The cantina — The Bridge Bar in County Kerry, Ireland — was less a wretched hive of scum and villainy than a place where everyone knows your name — on a planet with just one sun. Plus, now Luke’s not likely to get carded.

Finished with the day’s filming for Star Wars: Episode VIII on Wednesday, Hamill happened by the pub and was invited behind the bar — a much more friendly reception than he got at the Mos Eisley cantina on Tatooine. Facebook user Steve Lynott recorded video and posted it Thursday.

In his video, Hamill chats with pub patrons from behind the bar while learning how to pull a pint. As he considered aloud whether one of his pints was ready to serve, a woman told him it needed a smiley face in the foam. Hamill then recounted a story of actor Lee Marvin taking him to an Irish pub in 1978, where the bartender finished his pull with a flourish, creating a shamrock in the creamy top.

“I don’t know how he did it,” an incredulous Hamill said.

After Hamill had finally finished a pint with a perfect head on it, the crowd cheered and the actor thrust his arms into the air in victory.

“You’re never too old to learn a new profession,” he joked. “It’s something to fall back on, in case this whole Star Wars thing goes away.”
