SEATTLE, July 23 (UPI) — Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll first heard the criticism on Feb. 1 and he’s still hearing it. In fact, the play that ended the Seahawks season in Super Bowl XLIX has been referred to as the “worst call in NFL history.”
The latest entity to throw a punch at Carroll’s call: EA Sports’ Madden video game. Carroll’s call, of course, was a decision to pass the ball on the one-yard line late in the Super Bowl instead of handing the ball off to stud running back Marshawn Lynch. The play-call resulted in an interception and subsequent New England Patriots victory.
On Wednesday, the Seahawks’ official Twitter account tweeted “C’mon @EAMaddenNFL! What’s a Beast got to do to get a 99 TRUCKING?”
The Madden account swiftly fired back with a picture from the game’s playbook. The picture showed four plays from the goal-line section of plays that were all identical: “HB Dive.”
Madden’s account tweeted: “one more of these probably could’ve helped…”
The Seahawks responded with “#WeGotGot.”
Madden dropped the mic with a picture of Tom Brady, and saying “sorry we got hacked.”
