YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo., Oct. 26 (UPI) — A man who rescued a baby white tailed deer abandoned by its mother due to a leg injury nursed the fawn back to health and reunited it with its family.
The man, named Darius, who posted the video to YouTube under the username honeysada, said twin white tailed deer were born in his back yard and the family stayed close to his home, where he soon noticed one of the fawns had an injured leg.
The rescuer said he brought the female fawn into his home, where he fed her every four hours and treated her injured leg.
“I do not support keeping wild animals as a pets, but this was [a] special situation,” Darius wrote in the video’s description.
Darius said the deer became a member of his family.
“She was very hungry and had no problem with any of my pets. [For the] first week, she slept by my bed on my shirt, and the shirt became very important to her,” Darius told The Dodo. “She had to have it to be able to sleep.”
Darius said the fawn formed a special bond with a dog named Mack, who helped her to feel at home and played with her as her leg started to heal.
The video shows Darius attempt to release the fawn back into the wild several times, but she came back to his home each time.
Darius said the fawn finally left on her own when she encountered her mother and twin sibling.
He said the deer is back with her family, but she isn’t gone from his life — the doe and her fawns have made frequent appearances around his home.
