Sept. 14 (UPI) — A Virginia man who won $100 from a lottery ticket said he decided to use a portion of his winnings to try his luck again — and ended up $500,000 richer.
Gregory Dean, of Ashland, told Virginia Lottery officials he was feeling lucky after his $100 win, so he decided to use $10 of the winnings to buy a Super Ticket Big Money scratch-off ticket at the Brook Road Exxon.
Dean said he scratched off the ticket in the store and handed it to the store manager to verify that it was a winner.
“He jumped up and down, and so I jumped up and down with him!” Dean said.
The ticket turned out to be worth $500,000.
“I was at the right place at the right time,” he said.
The Virginia Lottery said Dean is the third person to claim a top prize in the game. The store was awarded a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
