Man who led IOC scandal probe: ‘It may be too late for FIFA’

LONDON (AP) — As FIFA tries to clean up its image amid the ongoing corruption scandal, the IOC is being held as a model to follow.

The International Olympic Committee faced a similar challenge — but on a smaller scale — in the late 1990s after bribery allegations linked to Salt Lake City’s winning bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics.

According to the man who helped lead the IOC cleanup, it will be a much more difficult challenge for soccer’s governing body.

Senior IOC member Dick Pound tells The Associated Press that the FIFA situation is “a complete and utter mess,” and that “it may be too late.”
