SAN ANTONIO, June 22 (UPI) — The waiting game continues for San Antonio Spurs fans.

Will the elite NBA franchise continue to chug along as stars Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Tony Parker age?

With Gregg Popovich on the bench, the answer is likely yes. Still, everyone wants to know when the ‘Big 3’ will call it quits.

On Wednesday, Ginobili opted out of his deal with the team. He had a $2.9 million option on the table for next season. According to sources, the veteran made the move to give himself more time to make a decision on his future with his team and in the league.

“Ginobili, 38, is leaning toward playing next season and returning to the Spurs under a new contract,” The Vertical’s Shams Charania reported.

The move also gives Ginobili more time to watch what Duncan decides to do. Parker remains under contract through 2018.

Duncan has a $5.6 million option for next season. He has until June 29 to make a decision on whether or not to pick it up.

David West also opted out of his contract and is considering retirement, according to Tom Osborn.

“Of course, it’s been an amazing run,” Ginobili told ESPN after the Spurs’ playoff series loss to Oklahoma City. “We all enjoy playing with each other. I’m so proud of having played with those guys for so many years and winning so many games, and even playing with the new guys. If there’s a reason why you always want to come back and keep being part of this, [it’s] because of the amazing chemistry, the good times and the good people that you play with and spend time with. It’s not always about winning a game or winning a championship. But you learn from losses, and it’s important to enjoy every day. Being a part of this team, I’m very proud of it, even if sometimes it doesn’t go our way.”

Ginobili averaged 9.6 points, 3.1 assists, and 2.5 rebounds last season, but only played 58 games. Ginobili and Parker have won four NBA championships. Duncan, 40, has won five titles.
