Marching band greets chemo patient after final treatment

MADISON, Wis., July 21 (UPI) — A woman who joked about wanting a marching band for her last chemotherapy appointment was treated to a surprise appearance by the University of Wisconsin band.

A Facebook post from the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center said Ann Trachtenberg had joked to her niece that a marching band should play her out from her final chemotherapy appointment at the facility, so her niece secretly arranged for the school’s Badger Band to surprise Trachtenberg outside the hospital.

The video shows Trachtenberg laughing in surprise when she exits the building to find the band standing in a line and playing the school’s fight song, “On Wisconsin.”

Lindsay Trachtenberg, the patient’s daughter, thanked supporters in a comment on the post.

“Thank you to the UW Carbone Center for taking great care of my mom, to the UW marching band for providing the perfect celebratory soundtrack, to my amazing cousin for all she has done over the past few months, to our family and friends who have provided support in many ways, and to all of you for your kind and supportive comments here!” she wrote.
