LOS ANGELES, Oct. 8 (UPI) — Marvel has announced its “Phase 3″ plan to expand its cinematic universe, including the release date of the Ant-Man sequel.

In a statement published Thursday, Marvel revealed Hope Van Dyne’s debut as the Wasp in Ant-Man and the Wasp will hit theaters July 6, 2018, pushing plans for the opening of Black Panther and Captain Marvel to different dates.

Marvel notes the upcoming film marks the first in which a heroine is a title character.

Ant-Man and the Wasp’s opening replaces the originally planned Black Panther in July 2016 and so will make its first bow in theaters earlier that February. Captain Marvel’s debut has been pushed back from November 2018 to March 2019.

The studio cites Ant-Man’s success in the box office following its July debut. The super-hero flick starring Paul Rudd raked in $178.5 million domestically and $231.5 million in the international market.

The movie followed the story of a burglar-turned-hero who is tasked with saving one of the world’s most dangerous inventions from entering the wrong hands.
