BALTIMORE, Nov. 17 (UPI) — Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan announced Monday diagnostic scans show he has no signs of cancer, some five months after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Hogan said he will be regularly checked for signs of reoccurrence but test results show the 18-week chemotherapy treatment course worked effectively.
“Incredibly, as of today, I am 100 percent cancer-free,” Hogan said at an emotional news conference. “This report couldn’t be any better. However, it does not mean that I’m cured.”
The first-term governor disclosed his diagnosis of Stage 3 cancer in June after discovering a lump in his neck during a trade mission to Asia. He said doctors found 60 orange- and golf ball-sized tumors throughout his lymph system.
Doctors said Hogan’s prognosis is good, but he needs to continue to limit his activity.
“He’s very likely to stay in remission. He couldn’t be doing any better at this point,” said Dr. Kevin Cullen, director of the University of Maryland’s Greenebaum Cancer Center, where Hogan was treated. “When someone goes into remission very quickly, it’s an extremely good sign.”
