CHESTERTOWN, Md., Nov. 16 (UPI) — Washington College in Chestertown, Md., was closed Monday due to a gun threat on campus linked to a sophomore student who disappeared after allegedly getting a weapon from his Pennsylvania home.
The college temporarily suspended classes around 7 a.m. before closing the school and urging students and staff on campus to shelter in place, and those not on campus to stay away.
“We received notification early this morning from the parents of sophomore Jacob Marberger that he had returned home and retrieved a firearm. The parents have not been able to reach him and do not know where he is or where is he is headed,” Washington College said in a statement. “Due to an abundance of caution the college has decided to close campus for the time being and asks all students and staff on campus to shelter in place. Anyone off campus should stay away from campus until further notice.”
The school believes Marberger is still in Pennsylvania.

Washington College, located in Maryland’s Eastern Shore, was established in 1782 and has an approximate enrollment of about 1,450 students.
